Quotec

Company History

Quotec was founded in 1984 by Dr Norman Waterman as a technology consultancy specialising in assisting materials and engineering companies to exploit the benefits of new and improved technologies. Quotec's early successes were built upon:

Quotec's strong track record of assisting companies with technology strategy and exploitation led to the company being contracted by DTI to run a Technology Awareness and Transfer programme, called 'Materials Matter' in the late 1980's. Around this time, Quotec was also asked to lead a team which developed the Innovation Management Tool Kit, a diagnostic tool for assessing the capability of an organisation for innovation. This project gave Quotec privileged access to leading companies to assess their innovation processes and identify best practice.

These two major projects provided Quotec with exposure to a wide-range of organisations and to the factors that help and hinder organisations to be innovative and to successfully exploit technologies. This experience provided a strong launch pad for Quotec to undertake the management of government funded technology exploitation programmes such as MedLINK and the Health Technology Devices Programme, both funded by the Department of Health.

In 2000, Quotec was acquired by CSIR, Africa's largest knowledge intensive technology organisation, giving it direct access to the technical expertise of 2500 researchers, working in a wide range of technical specialisms, and the management support of a large, international organisation.

Quotec is now a company focused on supporting organisations with all aspects of technology strategy and programme management from basic research to the marketplace, working largely in the UK but also in South Africa and Europe.
